MOL's Vessels and Terminals ISPS Certified as Required by U.S. Maritime Transportation Act
Concord, CA - MOL (America) Inc. is pleased to announce that all of the company´s containerships calling North America and all of MOL´s own terminals are in compliance with the International Maritime Organization´s (IMO) International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) and have been certified accordingly. ISPS certification requires international vessel and terminal operators to develop, have certified and implement comprehensive antiterrorism security plans.
The U.S. Coast Guard will use ISPS Certification to enforce the U.S. Maritime Transportation Act (MTSA). This act requires all vessels calling US ports to have an ISPS certified, antiterrorism security program activated by July 1, 2004. If a foreign flag vessel is not in compliance, the U.S. Coast Guard is authorized by MTSA to delay or deny vessel entry.
