MOL Announces On Time Arrival Performance Results for January - March 2014

April 28, 2014, Tokyo – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced the On Time Arrival Performance quarterly results for January to March 2014 for the major trade lanes as an effort of upgrading and improving the quality of services MOL Liner offers.

MOL has established a set of goals for KPIs including on time arrival performance to offer industry-leading transparency to customers and to showcase MOL's strength as a carrier that provides high quality service. (Press release issued on March 2, 2012)

Measurement criteria are:

  • Scope of trade lanes is

East-West Trade:            Asia-U.S. West Coast, Asia-U.S. East Coast, Transatlantic, Asia-Europe, Asia-Mediterranean

North-South Trade:        Asia-East Coast South America, Asia-Mexico/West Coast South America

Intra Asia Trade:                Intra Asia

  • When a vessel arrives at the first port of destination area for both directions, eastbound and westbound, within 24 hours of scheduled time of arrival, the voyage is regarded as On Time Arrival.

  • In each trade, Table 1 covers all vessels in the above scope and Table 2 covers vessels under MOL operations. Both results are weight-averaged based on MOL space allocation of each service.

Note:

In Q1 2014, MOL vessels maintained high on-time performance in Asia-USWC services. However, the overall on-time performance deteriorated to 79%, compared to 83% in the last quarter, and was mainly attributed to port congestion at Shanghai.

MOL vessels’ on-time performance was significantly affected by port congestion at Shanghai and New York due to inclement weather in Asia-USEC services. The overall on-time performance also deteriorated due to port congestion at Shanghai.

Continuous inclement weather conditions in the Atlantic Ocean played a major role in the reduced on-time performance in the Transatlantic service.

In the Asia-Europe services, on-time performance improved, compared to the last quarter, due to recovery from port congestion at European ports.

In the Asia-Mediterranean services, MOL vessels’ on-time performance decreased due to port congestion at Jeddah.

II.            North-South Trade

  • Below services are measured:

Asia - ECSA (“East Coast South America”) (CSW)

Asia - Mexico/WCSA (“West Coast South America”) (CWL - former WL1)

Note:

CSW on-time performance achieved 100% in Q1 2014.

CWL on-time performance decreased due to port congestion at Central and South Chinese ports.

However, MOL vessels improved on-time performance to 84%, compared to 67% in the last quarter, which was affected by port closure at Shanghai and congestion at Asian and Mexican ports. Only 1 MOL vessel delayed due to labor strikes and port congestion in Chile.

HS3 on-time performance improved to 88%, compared to 85% in the last quarter, which was affected by typhoons.

CBE on-time performance deteriorated due to one vessel’s continuous delay caused by port congestion at Manila.

CBW on-time performance did not improve due to port congestion at Manila, in addition to inclement weather at sea.
