MOL Announces On Time Arrival Performance Results for April - June 2014

August 1, 2014 Hong Kong – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced the On Time Arrival Performance quarterly results for April to June 2014 for the major trade lanes as an effort of upgrading and improving the quality of services MOL Liner offers.

MOL has established a set of goals for KPIs including on time arrival performance to offer industry-leading transparency to customers and to showcase MOL's strength as a carrier that provides high quality service. (Press release issued on March 2, 2012)

Measurement criteria are:

Scope of trade lanes is

East-West Trade:              Asia-U.S. West Coast, Asia-U.S. East Coast, Transatlantic, Asia-Europe, Asia-Mediterranean

North-South Trade:          Asia-East Coast South America, Asia-Mexico/West Coast South America

Intra Asia Trade:               Intra Asia

When a vessel arrives at the first port of destination area for both directions, eastbound and westbound, within 24 hours of scheduled time of arrival, the voyage is regarded as On Time Arrival.

In each trade, Table 1 covers all vessels in the above scope and Table 2 covers vessels under MOL operations. Both results are weight-averaged based on MOL space allocation of each service.

The following performance criteria were used:

  • Measured 11 services on MOL’s East-West trade route on MOL’s own vessels

Note:

US West Coast on-time performance continuously achieved high punctuality in Q2 2014.

US East Coast and Transatlantic on-time performance have yet to improve primarily due to the ongoing terminal congestion at New York.

Asia Europe performance decreased, mainly due to the terminal congestion at Rotterdam and Hamburg.

The Asia Mediterranean service on-time performance decreased due to the ongoing terminal congestion at Shanghai.

I.                   North-South Trade

The below services are measured:

Asia - ECSA (“East Coast South America”) (CSW)

Asia - Mexico/WCSA (“West Coast South America”) (CWL - former WL1)

Note:

Congestion at Asian ports and inclement weather in Central China negatively affected the on-time performance in both CSW and CWL in Q2 2014.

Additionally, April’s earthquake in Chile affected the terminal operations and resulted in port congestion throughout Q2 2014, which affected the CWL’s on-time performance.

I.                   Intra Asia Trade

          The below services are measured:

  • Measured 4 services on MOL’s Intra Asia trade route.

(R2) For improvement of on-time performance, Laem Chabang single call was implemented in Q2 2014.  Thus, the new Laem Chabang arrival time was set for the measurement of CBE South Bound on-time performance.

Note:

In Q2 2014, CHS and HS3 on-time performance decreased due to berth congestion at Hong Kong and Singapore.

CBE on-time performance was severely impacted by worsening berth congestion and low terminal productivity at Manila.

In view of risks brought by prolonged congestion and low terminal productivity at Manila, MOL implemented Laem Chabang single call and is studying further contingency plans to improve our CBE performance.

CBW on-time performance has been relatively maintained despite serious berth congestion at Manila by the maximum speed-up.
